Norman Nelson
Artist / Filmmaker

Mentored by portrait painter, John Collias in traditional oil approaches since l980. 

Working in oil on canvas, watercolor ink, salt, pastel, and pen & ink drawing.
I began painting birds of prey in 1980 using oil and following traditional wildlife technique. The Hawk show is now finished with 16 pieces.

With Covid keeping me in the studio I completed 5 new pieces this year with action approaches to the birds.  Softer brush strokes and layers of wet on dry. Added the Harpy eagle as this bird is being conserved in South American rain forests.

I continue to work with abstracts designs I find in nature and I finish these in either oil or watercolor with ink and salt. 
   

Began painting in Junior High School. Minored in Art from George Roberts at the University of Idaho, graduated with BA in Journalism.
   

Director/cameraman with Echo Film Productions since l980. I have experience in a range of media, although I have my own particular preferences that I keep coming back to.
